Ki Te Ara Whakamua: Pathways to Reducing Methamphetamine Harms was a call for change from 130 Māori experts in hauora and drug harm reduction regarding the challenges hapori Māori are experiencing with methamphetamine. This was held at Parliament on 26 July 2022.

Donna Matahaere-Atariki, Ngāi Tahu, Te Atiawa, Ngāti Ruanui, Ngā Rauru, Ngā Ruahine – reminded us about the importance of context and that many of our whānau have suffered adversity and layers of trauma. She highlighted that we don’t have the luxury of giving up on our whānau and the importance of rangatiratanga, to manaaki whānau. She also emphasised the importance of whānau, hapū, and iwi-owned entities and spoke about this concept of ‘universal proportionality’.
