Ki Te Ara Whakamua: Pathways to Reducing Methamphetamine Harms was a call for change from 130 Māori experts in hauora and drug harm reduction regarding the challenges hapori Māori are experiencing with methamphetamine. This was held at Parliament on 26 July 2022.
Hon Andrew Little acknowledged that Māori have been disadvantaged for years and that the system must take into account specific Māori needs, to turn these inequities around. He mentioned that Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora will work together to address these inequities and highlighted that drug use issues can’t be fixed overnight but that the Government is committed to addressing these.
