Whare Tukutuku, the National Māori Addiction Centre that sits within the korowai of Te Rau Ora, is today launching a national survey to better understand what a kaupapa Māori-informed model of care to support whānau grappling with alcohol-related concerns might look like.
The survey is part of a wider project to design a culturally appropriate and effective model of care that reduces alcohol-related harm, inequity, and stigma within the AOD space.
This mahi builds on insights from a three-year pilot of the Alcohol ABC (Ask, brief advice, counselling) screening tool run by Te Whatu Ora in Counties Manukau. An evaluation of the pilot found it did not deliver equitable outcomes for Māori. This new survey will be used to identify any potential barriers and opportunities to reimagine an alcohol screening approach that genuinely reflects the values, needs, and lived realities of whānau Māori.
The Whare Tukutuku team are keen to hear from kaimahi and anyone working to support people experiencing alcohol harms to share their whakaaro, lived experience, and insights to help shape future solutions.
All participants entering the survey will go in the draw to receive one of five koha. To fill out the survey, please visit: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Waipiro.
