Setting the Scene – Dr Maria Baker and Tuari Potiki: Ki Te Ara Whakamua 26 July 2022

Ki Te Ara Whakamua: Pathways to Reducing Methamphetamine Harms was a call for change from 130 Māori experts in hauora and drug harm reduction regarding the challenges hapori Māori are experiencing with methamphetamine. This was held at Parliament on 26 July 2022.

Dr Maria Baker, Ngāpuhi, Te Rarawa – and Tuari Potiki, Ngāi Tahu, Kāti Mamoe, Waitaha – set the scene for the summit by highlighting that we already know the wero before us and we have the solutions, which need to be led and driven by our whānau and hapū. They acknowledged that the summit would highlight key recommendations to the Government and reminded us that the time for action is now.
