Whare Tukutuku and Te Rau Ora are proud to announce the release of Te Wai Taramea: Māori Alcohol and Other Drug Workforce Report 2024. Building on the groundwork of the 2022 and 2023 reports, this years addition dives deeper into the experiences, needs and aspirations of kaimahi Māori in the AOD sector.
This report plays a pivotal role in advancing health equity, offering critical insights that will enhance the cultural capability of the workforce and shape future strategies that align with the aspirations of Māori communities.
The report highlights several transformative actions:
- Attracting talent: Develop initiatives to recruit passionate individuals with lived experience, strengthening and expanding the workforce.
- Advocating for pay equity: Tackle challenges around pay parity and resourcing to retain skilled kaimahi and ensure a sustainable workforce.
- Strengthening support networks: Foster whanaungatanga and kotahitanga by creating Māori-specific spaces for collaboration and connection.
- Elevating lived experience: Recognise and amplify the vital contributions of lived experience within the AOD workforce.
- Enhancing cultural capability: Invest in workforce development to build confidence in te reo me ōna tikanga and support culturally safe engagement with whānau Māori.
- A shared vision for the future: Work towards systemic change and culturally aligned harm reduction approaches that prioritise Māori principles, values, and practices.
